Lettering Project

The three letters that I decided to chose for my lettering project was UNC. These three letters describe me better than BEN. I am a huge UNC fan so it was no surprise to people when I decided to chose that for my project. In order to make the letters feel like they are three dimensional and you can just reach out and grab them, I used perspective. I used one point perspective, which has only one vanishing point. Even though I had the letters down i still had to make the background for the letters. I decided to draw a basketball court because I am a college basketball fanatic. Ofcourse, I had to remind everyone that UNC is number one! I finished it off with Ramsees and the UNC symbol. I did very good on this project and I am proud to be the biggest UNC fan!

Self Portrait Project

Black and White.jpg

That is a handsome devil right there, I bet he has all the ladies lined up for him! This is my self portrait project and overall this is my favorite project that we have done. I enjoyed being allowed to go outside with my classmates and taking pictures of every idea we came up with, whether just posing like this or climbing a tree. I wanted my self portrait to be nice and simple so i gave a stare to the camera, and face it you love that face! The bright leaf in the bottom right corner was not meant to be in the picture but it adds more value to the portait. I used many features while using photoshop to make my picture look better, if that was even possible. I used the burn tool on the background so that it showed more empahsis on my face and not the environment. Also i used the sponge tool to clean up any dark marks on my face or hands. I made sure to fix the contrast to where it fits my self portrait to look its best. Not too dark or too light, just right. When I saw the finalized picture I was happy on how good I did. Overall, this was my favorite project and the ladies love me!

Acrylic Landscape Painting

When we were allowed to chose pictures for our paining I decided to use one that I took from the beach last summer. I decided that I would use the analogous color scheme for my project. I chose to use green, blue, blue green, and blue violet. I had realized how this may not have been the ideal chose of colors for the beach scene but I wanted mine to be unique. Even though i wanted an unique painting I still  decided to make the sky I nice tint of blue. This affected my painting because i had the ocean set right under the sky, so i had to make the ocean blue violet in order to keep the two areas seem seperated. Also, to make the painting realistic I mixed some blue into the ocean as a clash of the reflection it would have. For my sandy part of the beach I simply decided to make the lightest tint of green possible in order for me to still have the grass a nice shade of green. To make it appear the most like sand I used the splatter technique with a toothbrush and black paint. For my grass i took a shade of green and just lighty stroked my canvas so that it appeared long and wavy, like how it would be at the beach. Finally, I had my beach chair, and i simply just made a really light tint of green and tried my hardest to paint the chair in a way to where it still seems identical to my picture. I created a light source in this painting by acting as if the viewer was the sun was right on top of whoever sat in the chair, because everybody needs a good tan! The main shading that I used was for the grass and the ocean. I did not use as much value as I should have, but where i did add value it definetly helped the painting. This project was really fun and i always enjoy using paint!

Ceramics project

The material that is used while making this project was white clay. This material was safe for us to use if we decided we wanted to use it for food. The size is 12 inches wide, 6 inches long, and has an height of 3 inches. The design element that was stressed during the making of this project was that I wanted it to look like some of the china my mom has at home. The technique that I used was the hump technique. This allowed me to get the perfect bowl shape and get the design I wanted. My piece does serve a function, it is used for my change that I don't care for; very helpful. I created a design by just letting my ideas flow and I also kept in mind the ideas of my mom's china. I learned a lot more about ceramics and sculpting when working in this project. If i would have done the project again i would have used some red clay to make the design more colorful and abstract.

Pastel Still Life Project

I planned my composition for this still life project by using things that described me. I decided to use things that is with me everyday. These items include my UNC hat, phone, ipod, pack of gum, and my wallet.  No items could describe me like they do, each item serves their purpose of describing me. This project was a thumbnail sketch. A thumbnail sketch is a small piece of work that was put down fast so the artist wouldn't forget the idea. These sketches are very helpful for artists when they want to start a new project.  The view finder helped me crop my objects in order to make the perfect view for my project. I made items look three dimensional by adding a light source to the image. This helped make it appear three dimensional because of the certain areas i shaded or lightened. I created a light source by simply picking an area in my cropped image and saying that is where the light is shining from. This project was very fun, minus the part where i got pastel all over me!
